What’s changing with WHMIS 2015?
The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is Canada’s national hazard communication standard, and in 2015, the legislation was updated to be in alignment with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) Revision 5.
Here are the main changes you can expect:
- Products formerly known as “Controlled Products” will now be called “Hazardous Products”
- Hazard classes will be change and more will be added
- Different classification criteria
- Supplier labels are changing
- GHS pictograms will be adopted
- New 16-section product safety data sheets (SDSs) to replace the former MSDSs
- No longer required to update SDSs every three years
As of June 1st, 2018, every company operating in and shipping to Canada must be fully compliant with the new WHMIS 2015 regulations. Are you prepared?
